We met with two women, Orit Ben-Harosh and Linda Bitan, from the "Amcha" (your people) organization. This organization was founded by Holocaust survivors, and focuses on one main goal; to help Holocaust survivors cope with their past and face the future. In addition, this organization helps people who must face the holocaust, as they are related to a holocaust survivor. This includes children, grandchildren, couples or any other person that may need help. Although it is a private organization, the Israeli government recognizes this institution's importance to Israeli society, and funds its activities and covers its expenses.
In our meeting with "Amcha" workers, we discussed our story, "The Name", and focused on the gap between the generations. In addition, we divided into groups and acted out different ways of different families' to coping with the holocaust. Some tell the tale, some fear it, and some ignore it and never say a word. Finally, we acted "human statues" of the generation gap in "The Name". (Which pictures of, you can see on the site) To summon our meeting, I would say it was interesting and important. For the future of our people, we really should know where we came from, and how to go on. |
