Relationships

Family relationships are something that must be constantly worked on to improve. There is almost always a conflict between expectations and actuality. Parents have certain expectations of their children and many times these expectations are not met. Many times you will hear a comment being made by parents such as “well at my age I never…” or “I never expected you to act this way you have really surprised me.” In reality children generally do not act very differently than their parents. Children pick up behaviors and mannerisms from their parents and subconsciously copy them.

Grandparents also have expectations of their grandchildren. In most instances there are fewer expectations but when not met they can cause disappointment and even family feuds. Having a close relationship with parents and grandparents, although difficult at times, can be extremely rewarding and enriching.
