For the next forty years, Dov dedicated his efforts to the perpetuation of the memory of Gush Etzion. He led the annual memorial service at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery and initiated many activities for the Etzion Bloc Survivors Organization, which he had founded. He meticulously edited the classic Hebrew volume on Gush Etzlon and established the Etzlon Bloc Archives. These efforts kept the memory of the Etzion Bloc alive and proved to be instrumental in the eventual refounding of Kibbutz Kfar Etzion upon its liberation in 1967.
Dov Knohl was privileged to return with his wife to Gush Etzlon, where he lived the last years of his life. He witnessed with great pride and with satisfaction the founding and development of the new Jewish communities in the Gush Etzion area. The establishment of fifteen settlements since 1967 was considered by Dov to be a continuation of the original efforts of the earlier pioneers and a fulfillment of their dreams. The replanting of thousands of fruit trees and shade trees, the establishment of important educational and cultural institutions, the introduction of light industry, the construction of private homes and public buildings, the successful absorption of many new immigrants from various countries, the physical development of the land and the spiritual growth of the vibrant Jewish society - all these were blessings in the eyes of a grateful Dov Knohl.
In the continued development of Gush Etzion, his memory will be blessed.
